The mission of the SEA SCOUTS Sri Lanka is to prepare young people to make ethical choices over their lifetime by instilling in them the values of the SEA SCOUTS Oath and Law.

Sea Scout in Sri Lanka was established in June 15th 1932 by founder W.F Abeykoon under the name of 1st port of Colombo SEA SCOUTS. Sea Scouts are are members of the international Scouting movement, with a particular emphasis on water-based activities, such as Kayaking, canoeing, sailing and rowing. Sea Scouts provides a chance to sail, cruise on boats, learn navigation, lean how to work on engines. You'll also have a chance to develop maritime skills that can lead to careers later on

SEA SCOUTS in Sri Lanka is a volunteer Group and no cost for the kids. We have few NGO's who pay for the uniforms and some traveling expenses for the kid's. Most of them come form disadvantage family's in fishing Villagers. We are affiliated to the SEA SCOUTS of USA.

Sea Scouts to resume operations

The Sea Scouts Organisation of Sri Lanka that suffered heavy damage due to the LTTE abortive air attack in Colombo recently is hoping to resume operations next month. According to National Commadore, Hiran Jayasinghe the Sea Scouts Organisation located behind the Inland Revenue Building suffered damage amounting to over Rs. 8 million following the explosion.

The LTTE aircraft flew over the Sea Scouts Organisation building and crashed into the Inland Revenue Department Building and due to the explosion and air vacuum created soon after, the building crumbled damaging all the computers, boats and other equipment, he said.

Thereafter the organization ceased operations and are now functioning outside Colombo causing severe hardships to its members. The Government has pledged one hundred thousand rupees and we are now looking at other ways of raising funds, he said.

Sea Scouts sail with young entrepreneurs

In an effort to raise funds to support their sailing program, the Colombo Sea Scouts are adding enterprise education to the skills courses for their young sailors. Colombo Sea Scouting continues to offer young people responsible fun and adventure. They also instill in young people lifetime values and develop in them ethical character as expressed in the Sea Scout Oath and Law.

Training of young people in citizenship, service, and leadership is part of the program. They also serve Colombo's communities and families with its quality, value-based program.

"By collaborating with Young Entrepreneur - Sri Lanka (YESL), The Junior Achievement International affiliate, we expect to also train our members in entrepreneurial activities to create self-funding opportunities for the group as well as expand the reach of the program" said Hiran Jayasinghe, Sea Scout Commodore.
